Some Rules - Wendy Cope Stop, if the car is going "clunk" Or if the sun has made you blind. Don't answer e-mails when you're drunk. You fire off something fierce. You're sunk. It's irretrievable. It's signed. You feel your spirits going "clunk." Don't hide your face with too much gunk, Especially if it's old and lined. Don't answer e-mails when you're drunk. Don't live with thirty years of junk Those precious things you'll never find. Stop, if the car is going "clunk.' Don't fall for an amusing hunk, However rich, unless he's kind. Don't answer e-mails when you're drunk. In this respect, I'm like a monk: I need some rules to bear in mind. Stop, if the car is going "clunk." Don't answer e-mails when you're drunk.

I love Wendy Cope. This is one of her humerous poems. The repetition of the words “clunk” and “drunk” really bring home the seriousness of “Some Rules”.
We’ve all broken the above rules at some point. A glass of wine…or two in the evening…and we just whip off a quick email response to a friend, a boss, a relative regarding something which cannot wait only to discover the recipient’s confusion or wrath the next day!
And when we hear that clunk in the car, we worry but of course think “I’ll just go slow and get to….there…then I’ll check it out” and then the clunk stops so we shrug and continue going slow, just so the clunking does not interfere with our day’s journey!
Life experience has created in us our own Life Rules. Stipulations we make to ourselves and others in certain circumstances. Life Rules that we assert to family and friends “Never do this, it will only lead to trouble….”
I’d love to hear your life rules that you’ve created and stick to regularly. Tell me below x
